Enshrouded’s Largest Update Yet Introduces New Mountain Region, Pets, and Single-Player Pausing
Enshrouded has just rolled out what developers Keen Games are calling the survival game’s “largest update so far.” This update brings a host of exciting new features, including a brand new playable area known as the Alabaneve Summits. This mountainous region is teeming with its own unique enemies, resources, non-threatening wildlife, and quests to embark on.
In addition to expanding the game’s landscape, the maximum character level has been raised to 35, allowing players to further develop their skills and abilities. Players can now also tame animals and invite them to share their poorly constructed homes, which adds a fun new layer to the gameplay. And yes, watch out for hypothermia as you explore the snowy peaks!
One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of a dynamic weather system. Players will experience sudden snowfall that can drain body heat in the new biome, adding an extra challenge to survival in the harsh environment. This update is a significant improvement for an early access game that Ollie praised back in January for its “solid foundation” and “best-in-class building,” while also noting issues like “insipid” combat and quality-of-life concerns.
Key updates include new grappling hook skills that allow players to pull airborne foes into melee range or draw themselves closer to larger enemies, reminiscent of Bionic Commando. Gliding has also been made more challenging, with air turbulence affecting flight paths, although players have the option to disable this feature. Additionally, the long-awaited single-player pause functionality has been implemented, along with a reworked leveling curve to prevent players from maxing out too early.
Perhaps the most appealing change for casual players is the enhanced behavior of recruitable characters for your homestead. These townsfolk now exhibit more lifelike behaviors, participating in a day-night cycle where they explore, inspect points of interest, take breaks, and even sleep at night (often on the floor if necessary). However, this newfound realism may lead to some guilt over their living conditions.
Enshrouded is expected to leave early access in 2025, and for those curious about its evolution since January and what lies ahead, the developers have released a roadmap detailing future updates and features.
